How to Iron On Leather Patches

Leather patches can be heat-applied, but they need a lower temperature and shorter press time than standard iron-on patches. Follow these leather-specific steps for a clean, lasting bond.

  1. Place the leather patch in the desired position.
  2. Cover the patch with a thin cotton cloth or Teflon sheet to protect the surface.
  3. Set the heat press or iron to approximately 320°F (160°C).
  4. Apply firm pressure for 15–20 seconds.
  5. Allow the patch to cool completely before testing adhesion.
  6. If necessary, repeat the process for an additional 5–10 seconds.

Important Notes

  • Heat settings may vary depending on the fabric type.
  • We recommend testing on a sample garment before full application.
  • For items subject to frequent washing or heavy use, stitching around the patch is recommended for maximum durability.
  • For cap applications, we strongly recommend sewing the patch after heat pressing to ensure long-term durability.
